IsaAthlete, Jana Pittman, has taken on a new challenge in 2013 and is going for gold in a new sport – Bobsleigh at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Here she gives us the down low on how she’s adjusting to her new sport and her hopes for the next Games…
“We are fast approaching the 12 months-to-go mark for the Sochi Winter Olympic Games. The last few months have been an adrenalin fuelled crash course in my new sport of Bobsleigh as ‘I feel the rhythm, feel the ride’ pelting down an ice hill of speeds up to 142km per hour. This is certainly not for the faint hearted. Astrid my pilot and I are on the road most days traveling across Europe, racing on different tracks, lifting our 180kg sled in and out of trucks and training our guts out. Many hours are spent playing mechanic, fiddling with alignment, sanding the runners (blades in the bottom) and fixing up sled issues. It isn’t always easy but all that disappears in an instant when you catapult yourself into the back of the sled, place your head between your knees and feel the world spin out of control like you’ve been thrown into a giant blender, nothing short of the amazing! The next few months will decide our fate come the Olympics but I know Astrid and I will give everything we possibly can to make Australia proud. I am so grateful to be part of this journey.”
