From achieving success as farmers in Zimbabwe to building a fruitful property development business in Australia, circumstances out of Stephen and Maren Barnard‘s control always seemed to knock them back to square one. The pair first met working for IBM Computers in Johannesburg way back in 1991, but they soon realised that the corporate life wasn’t for them.

After working together for over a decade, Stephen took up an opportunity to work away on the mines, a situation neither him or his family were prepared for. “Those few years on the mines was the only time we weren’t together, so we were all sort of struggling with that,” Maren recalls.

Like many Isagenix® journeys, Stephen and Maren’s began with an incredible physical and mental transformation.

The simple benefits of improved nutrition prompted the Barnards to share Isagenix with close friends. “Before we knew it, we were earning money and we had no idea why!” Stephen says. “As soon as we got that cheque Maren delved into the Compensation Plan and looked at the company more seriously.”

The couple decided to give network marketing a crack. They built their business to the point that Isagenix replaced Maren’s income, which opened their minds to a new world of possibilities.

“Once we realised the potential we had a massive goal to replace Stephen’s income and bring him home from the mines,” Maren explains. “Stephen shared as much as he could with the others at work while I’ll helped take care of the rest.”

Stephen was soon back home and the couple have since helped at least two other people finish up their mining work too. Their unselfishness has been the foundation of their success from the beginning and has guided their business decisions ever since.

“Our goal moving forward is all about stability and building a solid foundation for our business,” Stephen says. “That means looking after our people in our team, helping them reach their business goals while also supporting people to have the best possible product experience.”

Despite becoming Isagenix Millionaires* – or perhaps spurred on by this milestone – they continue to look for ways to better themselves and through personal and team development.

“For us to get better results we need to make sure that our team understands the skills we pass on to them, so they duplicate what we’ve learned,” Maren shares. “We spend money to educate ourselves and we trial and error to see what works.”

Even though Stephen and Maren have their own vision, they believe it’s crucial to help their team reach their goals so they don’t fall out of love and throw away this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“We fly all over the country and host online meetings all the time to make sure our people have all the skills they need to succeed,” Maren says.

While upskilling, attending Isagenix Events and finding a strong business role model is key to success, the most important thing is having the right mindset.

“At the end of the day this is a real business, so you need to treat it and run it like a large-scale corporation,” Stephen advises. “These things take time. Create a five-year vision and reverse engineer your way to that goal.”
