So many people love to run, from responsibilities and fears… But when it comes to running for exercise and good health, that’s a whole different story!

The more people run, the better the world is. Don’t know where to start? With all the information floating around the internet and Instagram fitness accounts, cardio can seem chaotic . Peel it back one layer at a time so you can put your fears to bed and get out and enjoy the world.

Step 1 – Make a commitment!

The first step (quite literally) is to simply get out and run. Starting a new habit is difficult, so don’t overthink it. Just get started and run or walk for as long as you’re comfortable – the last thing you want to do is burn yourself out in the first week! Once you’ve blown out the cobwebs and realised running isn’t as scary as you thought, it’s time to create a schedule and stick to it.

Step 2 – Find Your ‘Why’

A regular running schedule will only last as long as you’re motivated. So remember the reason why you’re running! Not only will it help motivate you to stay on track, but you might just push yourself that little bit harder. Whether it’s to lose weight, finish your first race or smash your PB, anything is better than just mindlessly running.

Step 3 – How well equipped are you?

To start running, you really only need shoes. Make sure your feet are snug while you clock up the kilometres. It might help to track your training on the IsaLife™ app – and why not go the extra step and track your nutrition too!

Step 4 – Stay ahead of the game

The most important thing in being a consistent runner is to make healthy choices! Experiencing pain will make you want to take a break and so you should. There’s nothing worse than aggravating an injury by not recovering properly. Start to consider what type of strength training and stretches to include in your routine, so you’re well equipped to handle your running load.

Step 5 – Keep inspired

Sometimes – for whatever reason – our ‘why’ and our goals aren’t enough to get us out and about. It might take a little pick-me-up from another source. There’s no better place to find inspiration than ANZ.IsaFYI.com. Read up on some of the most amazing transformation stories from our IsaBody Challenge® finalists and 100 Pound Club members.
