Team Isagenix Bodybuilder Leigh Skinner began powerlifting in his 40s in 2008 and debuted in his first Paralympic powerlifting competition in May 2009. Over the last 8 years in the sport, Leigh has proudly represented Australia at two Commonwealth Games and at over 15 events in Australia and internationally. Leigh has broken a multitude of records and continues to consistently add to his impressive resume, most recently taking out gold at the Wheelies National Powerlifting Event in July.
Leigh was introduced to Isagenix by his Gold Coast strength and conditioning coach and started on the Energy and Performance Program four weeks prior to competing at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland. “It was a risk to alter my nutrition program in the lead up to competing but I did my research and decided changing up my nutrition would be worth the risk,” explains Leigh. “I felt Isagenix products had the potential to give me a competitive edge and push me to the next level.” The results spoke for themselves, with Leigh going on to set three new records at the Asia Oceania Bench Press Championships later that same year.
With Leigh’s impressive resume, it is hard to believe the now 52 year old was once considering retiring from the sport altogether. ”There are no age groups within the powerlifting sport so I’m often competing with people in their 20s and 30s,” says Leigh. “I didn’t want to retire but there was a point where I felt as though it might be necessary. I wasn’t sure if I could continue to compete against the younger competitors and I was struggling to recover from multiple injuries.” Once Leigh began using the Isagenix program, his body began to grow stronger and recover faster – the strength of his body began to, once again, match the strength of his mind.
Leigh’s most recent gold medal win in July occurred only a year after major shoulder surgery and with only 6 months training. Leigh credits his fast recovery and boost in strength to IsaLean™ Pro and Ionix® Supreme – his two can’t-live-without Isagenix products. “I take a shot of Ionix first thing every morning and I like to mix it with water to sip on during training sessions,” says Leigh. “I’ve found that drinking Ionix during training helps my muscles to adapt to the fast twitch muscle movements involved with powerlifting.” The adaptogens in Ionix also help to relieve the stress on his body while powerlifting, resulting in a smoother and stronger lift while the high concentration of branched-chain amino acids found in IsaLean Pro provides him with swift muscle recovery.
“I represent Team Isagenix because the no-compromise products have changed my life,” expresses Leigh. “They’ve taken me on an incredible mental and physical journey – I feel 25 again!” Most importantly to Leigh, he hopes to inspire older men and dads like himself to continue to follow their dreams, push the boundaries and break the stigma associated with ageing.
Age is nothing more than a number to Leigh and with his positive attitude, infectious passion for life and desire to change lives, it’s no wonder he exemplifies the Isagenix culture.
